As open as Group 1 still is in the ICC World T20I 2016, Group 2 seems pretty much decided with New Zealand already qualified for the semi-finals and Pakistan, Australia, and India still to secure their final place in the Group. However, it’s just 2 matches that will decide the fate of these teams and Australia is featured in both those matches as they will be playing against India and Pakistan in their last 2 group matches. Let’s see where the teams stand in the Group 2 at the moment.

#WT20 2016 Points Table Group 1
#WT20 2016 Points Table Group 2
New Zealand have not been beaten by any team yet in the tournament and they have qualified for the semi-finals having won all their 3 matches that they have played so far and securing 6 points. They still have a game left against Bangladesh and may very well go into the semis unbeaten.
India are placed second on the points table at the moment and they have won 2 out of their 3 matches which has earned them 4 points. However, their NRR is -0.546 which is poorest of the three teams that are competing for the spot in the semis at the moment. They must have to win their last match against Australia with really a big margin to qualify for the semis without any doubts.
Pakistan are currently placed 3rd on the points table but their NRR is best out of the 3 competing sides. They have just 2 points on the table at the moment after losing 2 out of their 3 matches. They have to beat Australia with a good margin and expect Australia to beat India in order for them to qualify for the semis.
They are currently placed 4th in the group with 1 victory in 2 matches played so far. They stand the best chance to qualify for the semis along with New Zealand as they have two games left yet and if they win both of them then they will be straight through. If they win against Pakistan then it will be between them and India and even if they lose against India in their last match it will have to be a big margin defeat to rule them out of the tournament. However, if they lose to Pakistan then they will have to win it really big against India to turn the NRR in their favor.
Bangladesh are currently placed last in the group having lost all their matches played so far. They are ruled out of the tournament with 1 game still left against New Zealand. As they’re out of contention for the semis, it doesn’t matter whether they win or lose and it won’t affect New Zealand either.
