West Indies Team Squad T20 World Cup 2016 Preview:
West Indian cricket board has also announced its 15-member squad for the ICC World T20 2016 that will be taking place in India. Jason Holder is no more the captain of the side as the captaincy is back with Darren Sammy. Of course, Sammy is one of their successful captains and also has the capability to lead from the front both with the bat and the ball.
However, West Indian campaign to the World T20 event has already seen a few jolts before even starting because of the injuries and player’s concerns. So, they will have to put things aside and get a heads-up start to the tournament. They will be depending on players like Johnson Charles, Chris Gayle, Andre Fletcher, Marlon Samuels and Lendl Simmons in the batting department. All of them are hard hitters and can be devastating on their day.
It’s all about how they apply themselves in there and face the opposition’s bowling attack. Gayle looked a bit off-colored in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League where he found it really hard to get going except for one match where he got 60 runs to his credit. However, there will be immense responsibility on Dwayne Bravo and Andre Russell towards the lower part of the innings.
They have played a lot of international cricket in leagues as well as for the national side and are great finishers on their day. So, it will have to be seen how they play in the mega event and what their national fans can expect from them. The wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin is also expected to come up with good contributions with the bat as he is good form in recent times.
As for their bowling, they will be counting on the pace of Jerome Taylor majorly. However, they have some other handy prospects as well with the likes of Andre Russel, Jason Holder, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy and Carlos Brathwaite.
All of them can bowl and will have to come up with reasonable performances if West Indies have to fancy their chances on the big stage. However, they have a good spin bowling attack that is lead by Samuel Badree. Off-spinner Ashley Nurse came into the squad as a replacement for Sunil Narine. Suleiman Ben is also part of the squad. Nevertheless, West Indies will miss Sunil Narine in this big event for sure who has been withdrawn because of his injury concerns after being selected initially.
